New Stories – New Look to MiHistoria

Saludos Story Lovers,

In the last few months we’ve gotten to meet and hear stories from many incredible women young and old. MiHistoria is reaching out to women-based, grassroots community organizations to share their stories. We’ve done some traveling in the process! From driving during a downpour on the worst “highway” in New Mexico–a two-lane road on a remote mountain –to our neighborhoods by the Bay.

This summer, MiHistoria led a storytelling workshop at the Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social Summer Institute in El Rito, New Mexico. Our next workshop will take us to Greenfield, California, where Lideres Campesinas will share their stories.  In the weeks to come, we will be sharing stories of these strong farmworker women leaders that are servings as agents to create social, economic and political changes.

Explore our latest stories at www.MiHistoria.net. Storyteller Milagros Ramirez is writing her memoir! Check out her story The Fluttering of a Butterfly. An undocumented caregiver living in San Francisco, Milagros is actively seeking a publisher for her manuscript, The Nanny’s Tale: Growing Up in the Violence of El Salvador. Her story inspires us and we hope that it will inspire you to share one of your own!

Take a look at our new story quilt layout and search features. You can search by themes as well as tag your own story. As we grow MiHistoria, we also want to acknowledge the contribution of the LaFetra Foundation in helping to make the changes to our website possible. Thank you!

If you are in the Los Angeles area on Friday November 7th, Laurie will be talking about her film Adios Amor and women’s history told from the bottom up on the panel I need a Hero:  Latina/o Biography for a 21st Century Audience at the American Studies Association annual meeting. Hope to see you there!

If you’ve liked what you’ve seen and want to help us continue our project, consider hosting a fundraising event or making a tax-deductible contribution to MiHistoria. We are always in need of support to be able to reach out to more women.

Con cariño y respeto,

Albertina Zarazúa Padilla, Laurie Coyle and the MiHistoria team
